What to Do Immediately After a Loved One Passes
If the death occurs in a hospital
If your loved one passes away in hospital, the staff assist with notifying a physician and completing medical documentation. We can coordinate with hospital administration to transfer the body, arrange legal papers, and begin the planning process.
If the death occurs at home or in a care facility
Contact the attending doctor, who must certify the cause of death if natural. They will issue the necessary documentation for burial or cremation. Staff at care or nursing facilities are often able to assist with initial steps.
If the death is unexpected
In cases where medical supervision or care was not in place, you may need to involve emergency services, the attending doctor, or law enforcement (SAPS) to investigate and issue appropriate paperwork.
