Frequently Asked Questions
We understand that in times of loss, many questions arise. Below are some of the most frequently asked questions by families we serve. If you do not find the answer you need, please reach out — we’re available 24/7 to assist.
When Someone Dies
What should I do immediately after a loved one passes away?
Contact a medical professional (doctor or nurse) to issue a death certificate. If the death occurred in hospital, staff will assist. If at home, contact the local authorities or GP. Once documents are issued, get in touch with Status Funerals so we can guide you through what happens next.
Can I care for the body at home before we transfer to a funeral home?
Yes, depending on local health regulations. We can assist in providing guidance and arrange transfer when ready.
Funeral Arrangements
What types of funeral services are available?
We offer traditional burials, cremations, memorial services, custom ceremonies, and more. Services can be religious or non-religious, simple or bespoke, depending on your preferences and budget.
How long does a funeral planning process take?
It varies. For simple services or when preferences are clear, it can be arranged within a few days. More complex or custom options (e.g. special music, repatriation) may take longer. Our team will provide realistic timelines once we know your needs.
Repatriation & Transport
What is repatriation and can you help with worldwide transport?
Repatriation is the process of returning a deceased person to their place of origin (locally or internationally). Yes, Status Funerals can assist with all aspects — documentation, transportation, liaising with authorities, airlines, and local funeral homes to ensure a smooth process.
What paperwork is needed for transporting remains?
Typically you’ll need the death certificate, embalming certificate (if required), passport / ID, a transit permit (if crossing borders), and sometimes customs documentation. We help you gather and complete everything.
Personalization & Services
Can I personalize the service (music, decorations, photos, etc.)?
Absolutely. We encourage families to tailor services with favourite songs, personal items, display photos or video tributes, custom floral arrangements, or other meaningful touches.
Is there a viewing / wake option?
Yes. We offer viewing or awakening services in our chapel or viewing rooms. You can decide if you’d like a public viewing or a private family-only viewing.
Pricing & Payments
How much will a funeral cost?
The cost depends heavily on the choices you make — service type (burial or cremation), the coffin/casket, venue, transport, personalization (music, flowers, ceremony), etc. We offer packages, and we are transparent about pricing. Once we discuss your preferences, we provide you with an estimate.
Do you offer payment plans or pre-payment / memberships?
Yes. Our My Final Wishes Membership allows you to plan ahead and lock in certain costs. We also discuss payment options with the family during the planning stage.
After the Funeral
What happens to the estate / will process after death?
Funeral companies do not administer estates or wills. You may need to speak with a lawyer or executor. We can provide guidance on documents related to the death, death certificates, and assist with acquiring multiple copies if needed.
How do I obtain extra copies of the death certificate?
Once the death is registered with Home Affairs, additional copies can be requested for a fee. We can help you through that process.
